ACTItalia has this year planned to create a big party to commemorate the ninety years since the first camping club in Italy was established. It was April 13, 1932 when the Auto Campeggio Club Piemonte was founded to bring together all those people who approached the car camping to devote themselves to this new form of sports tourism. In Europe, in previous years, other realities of this type had formed. The very first club was established in England in 1901: the Association of Cycle Campers (ACC), followed by France and Belgium who began to appreciate and share this lifestyle.

The ACCP was therefore the fifth club in Europe to be established by the will of Luigi Bergera, passionate about outdoor life, who proposed to found a Camping Club in Italy as well. It was the afternoon of April 13, 1932, the historic date for camping in Italy. The 1st article of the Statute is important:

The Auto Camping Club Piemonte, founded on April 13, 1932 EF ( ed. It was mandatory to put the year of the Fascist Era) brings together those people who dedicate themselves to car camping and who dedicate themselves to this form of sports tourism

Regarding the history and evolution of this new holiday formula, which has fascinated millions of people bringing them closer to this type of tourism, our Honorary President prof. Camillo Musso, dean of campers with his 94 years and historical mind of the events of the past years, felt the need to write and accompany with many photographs and articles of the time the history of camping that has crossed his life transversely.

On the occasion of the meeting ( from Monday 12/09 to Friday 16/9 ) that we have planned during the Salone del Camper in Parma in September (from 10/09 to 18/09) we will present the book by prof. Musso with an extensive description of the main events. It will be a great opportunity to share with other European realities, together with our Italian campers, the passion and enthusiasm that this lifestyle transmits.

Dear camping friends, the first camping club was established in 1932 in Piedmont. Actitalia has sought, wanted and planned this ninetieth anniversary because it is an important page in our history and it is essential that everyone knows where we come from.

The people of campers, Italian and foreign, will be welcomed at the structure of the Salone del Camper in Parma which in those days is planning the holding of the Fair. It will be an opportunity to know some details of the course of events that the Honorary President Camillo Musso has so well narrated as he is the historical memory of much of this long period. In fact, we will present one of his books where he narrates the events of camping from the dawn to the early 2000s.

We will visit Parma and the surrounding area to learn about the history, culture and nature of this area. As I anticipated in the introduction, it will be the pretext to experience a moment of collective aggregation with other realities and countries with customs and traditions different from us and the opportunity to share joy and friendship among peoples. In addition to the foreign crews, it will be an opportunity to extend this experience to Italian friends, including those of the other National Federations, and to spend this special adventure together.

Best wishes and see you in Parma.

AUTO CAMPEGGIO CLUB PIEDMONT is the first Club born in Italy and fifth in Europe. This year we celebrate the 90th anniversary of its foundation having been created on April 15, 1932.

I was the only survivor, and I collected our story in one volume. It was a long and delicate job that will be ready for the international meeting scheduled by ACTItalia during the Parma Fair.

The first badge of the AUTO CAMPEGGIO CLUB PIEDMONT represented a curtain with wheels, perhaps it did not intend to anticipate the camper but the desire to get closer to nature and life in the open air.

The evolution of times has transformed what was born as a sport into a commercial activity, and has influenced the function of some clubs that have transformed it, as if they were a travel agency, far removed from the spirit of the old camping club. In the 2000s and, unfortunately, due to the pandemic, the situation worsened.

Like the old talking cricket of Pinocchio, instead of hitting me with a hammer blow, accept my appeal to return to the origins of our life, to the old gatherings as was the “Italo, Franco, Swiss”, while respecting the limitations imposed, with the awareness of having the honor of participating in a great celebration among peoples.

I am old, but if you still like my presence, even if not physical, with an internet connection I will be happy to talk to you and make a virtual toast.

As Honorary President, I spiritually join you, congratulating the President, excellently assisted by the Council, who, despite the difficult situation, is guiding the Association with skill and self-denial.

I hope to meet you in Parma.
